Reyes remains as TNT coach; Kings tap troubled import

The Talk ‘N Text management made a bold move on Thursday by keeping Chot Reyes as the Tropang Texters coach.

This was confirmed by TNT team manager Virgil Villavicencio saying that the volatile Reyes would coach the team in the coming Fiesta Cup.

"Coach Chot Reyes will continue calling the shots for Talk ‘N Text next conference," Villavicencio told GMANews.TV in a telephone interview. "That’s after we evaluated the team’s performance. We will also have an intact line-up next conference."

Reyes, who only last year led Talk ‘N Text in winning the PBA Philippine Cup crown, went under evaluation after leading his team to walkout and forfeit Game 4 of its Philippine Cup quarterfinals series against Barangay Ginebra.

Reyes and the entire Texters squad were reevaluated by the TNT management after the team lost to the Gin Kings in their best-of-five quarterfinals series despite holding a 2-0 edge.

The Texters were swept by the Kings in the last three games with the Game 4 walkout and forfeiture as the turning point of the series as it enabled the crowd darlings to easily tie the series.

Now that Reyes will be back on board, the Tropang Texters are now busy shopping for a reinforcement in time for the Fiesta Cup.

"Coach Chot and I are in constant communication, particularly now that we’re searching for an import," said Villavicencio. "We need an import who plays either 4 or 5 position and right now, we have two candidates. We will finalize (everything) on Friday."

Meanwhile, Barangay Ginebra is tapping the services of an import with an interesting story – Awvee Storey.

Storey, an NBA veteran, has had quite a tumultuous career. He was a former teammate of Gilbert Arenas with the Washington Wizards where they played together in 2006. During the Memorial Day weekend of the same year, he and Arenas were arrested and charged for disobeying the police at Miami Beach.

Charges were dropped after the 6-foot-6 Storey donated $250 for charity.

As a player of the Dakota Wizards in the NBA Developmental League, Storey punched teammate Martynas Andriuškevičius in the head during practice.

Andriuškevičius fractured skull, and suffered from severe concussion and a bruise after the incident. He didn’t file any charges against Storey but the league suspended him and Dakota terminated his contract later.

But Storey has great basketball sense. He was one of Pac-10’s top rebounders while playing for University of Illinois and posted 16 double-double performances in his 85-game NCAA career.

During the 2007-08 NBA season while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks, Storey averaged 3.5 points and 2.1 rebounds.
