MANILA, Philippines - James Yap and Roger Yap continued to combine for Purefoods both in offense and defense to give the team a 2-0 lead over Rain or Shine in their best-of-five quarterfinal round showdown in the KFC PBA Philippine Cup.
The Yaps have carried much of the scoring and defensive load for the Giants, who continued to dominate the Elasto Painters whom they swept in the double round elimination phase.
In Game One of the quarters, which Purefoods won, 90-85, James Yap sizzled with 31 points on top of six rebounds, three assists and a shot block while Roger Yap added 17 points, three rebounds and a steal aside from putting the clamps on Rain or Shine’s main man, Solomon Mercado.
In Game Two, James Yap hauled down five rebounds and made three assists and churned out 23 points, including two from the line off a foul by Eddie Laure with six-tenths of a second remaining to lift the Giants past the Elasto Painters, 95-94.
Roger Yap, on the other hand, had 22 points, five rebounds and three assists, hitting back-to-back triples in the final two minutes as the Giants completed a stirring comeback from 20 points down to clinch the win.
The pair was named KFC/Accel-PBA Press Corps’ Co-Players of the Week for the period Jan. 27 to 31.
