Pacquiao vs Clottey frenzy hits Mexico

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Top Rank’s Bob Arum have teamed up and come on down to Mexico City to promote the Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey fight, dubbed “The Event” on March 13th at that brand new glittering stadium.

Mr. Jones has also revealed that following this sporting extravaganza, he wants to be right up there in the fray of competition for the chance to hold the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr, should the blood, sweat and tears of negotiation prove fruitful. He stressed:

“I want to earn that, and want to earn that with boxing and with the fans of boxing. I appreciate what Las Vegas has meant to boxing, and it’s been special. But fights of this stature can be shown when you have four or five times the amount of people and you can get the atmosphere too.

“The NFL - as great a game as it is on television, and it was built for television, would be nothing if it didn’t have the pageantry and crowds of the stadium. The crowds and the fan experience that comes your way through television are important to enjoy that game. You and I want to know they’re playing before thousands and thousands of people. Boxing can have that and we can have that at the cowboys stadium!”

Mr. Jones explained his pride and love in sports and determination to put on the best show with Manny and Joshua, who are prepared to throw the kitchen sink into this clash. He put it this way:

“I dug deep when I bought that stadium because of the pride that I have of being a man of sports and being associated with the Cowboys. I dug very deep when I bought the Team. I paid more than anyone in the history of the world for the Dallas Cowboys.”

Jerry Jones also explained about the unsurpassed financial commitment in building the new stadium. The final cost was 1.15 billion dollars. He said: “The bottom line- I emptied my bucket to build that stadium. Before they play, I tell the team, empty your bucket today. We have emptied our bucket to have Manny Pacquiao be the first fight in that stadium. We will do everything we can."

“We will take that huge screen that makes him seventy two feet tall, and we’ll hang it thirty feet above their heads. And when they’re in there competing and fighting, every fan in the stadium, will feel as if they’re in there with them!”

There’s an impressive undercard featuring John Duddy and Salvador Sanchez - the nephew of the great one. But perhaps the most interesting bout will be between Alfonso Gomez, the WBC Welterweight Intercontinental belt holder ,and ring legend Jose Luis Castillo, who says that after this bout, he’ll probably fight at 140.

The young whippersnapper told the audience how he’s looking forward to being featured larger than life on the “Jerrytron” and also impressed with a ditty about his upcoming clash with Jose Luis. mentioning his youth and vampire like qualities. It drew roars of laughter from everyone including Jose Luis who added that another of his opponents- Juan Lazcano had come up with a neat poem, but lost in the ring.
