Paul Lee once again bailed Cobra Energy Drink out of harms way. Lee, who just two days ago starred in Cobra’s 81-77 win over AddMix.
Repeated his end-game heroics when he scored the game-winning lay-up that allowed the Ironmen to escape with a 78-77 victory against Pharex B Complex in Saturday’s 2010 PBL PG.
Flex-Erase Placenta Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Staring at a 68-58 deficit midway in the final period, Lee scored eight of his game-high 24 points in the fourth and highlighted his heroics with a fastbreak layup, off an Arvin Braganza turnover, to seal Cobra’s second straight win.
Patrick Cabahug was also part of that Cobra comeback as his second three-pointer pushed the Ironmen to within one, 77-76, with 25.3 seconds left in the game.
"Ladyluck smiled on us. Today it was more on the breaks that went our way. But I will gladly take this win," said Chongson.
All Pharex needed to do after Cabahug’s three-pointer was to protect the ball and ran down the clock but Lee intercepted Braganza’s inbound pass that led to the game-winning basket.
Pharex was coming off an 82-62 blowout win over Agrinururture on Thursday.
The Aboy Castro-coached Pharex squad seemed headed for their second win after twice enjoying double-digit spreads, the last time at 68-58 on a Magi Sison split free throw.
But Lee took charged from there and sparked a 13-6 exchange that trimmed the deficit to three, 74-71. He scored five straight points in that Cobra scoring run and issued several pin-point passes to his open teammates.
Woody Co and Sison made three free throws to up the lead to four 77-73 with 32.3 ticks left but Cabahug buried a three-pointer at the other end to nailed a three-pointer and moments later Lee was there to make the game-winning play.
"I didn’t instruct the players to foul and wanted them to trap to force a turnover inside eight seconds. Luckily they made a bad pass," added Chongson.
Lee also pulled down 11 rebounds, issued four assists and had two steals in 34 minutes. He shot 8-of-12 from the field.
Narciso Llagas added 19 points, Cabahug and rookie Jai Reyes tallied 15 and 12 each.
"We’re strong on paper but we still luck cohesion with eight new players in our team. We’re relying on our individual talents and our hearts. So I’m really not thinking of being the favorites this season but we are really looking forward to win this tournament," added Chongson.
Vic Manuel produced a solid 15 points, 14 rebounds, two assists and a block but it was not enough to carry Pharex to another win. – GMANews.TV
