COCA-COLA may tap again the service of 6-foot-6 former best import James Penny to be the team’s import in the coming Philippine Basketball Association Fiesta reinforced conference, which begins on March 21.
Gerard Francisco, the team’s assistant manager, said on Monday the team is considering the high-leaping Penny to be the Tigers import next conference, because of his competitive nature and all-around play.
“Right now, we still have no import but Penny is among our candidates,” said Francisco, who confirmed that there’d be no local players’ movement for the meantime. “We’re going to settle to our line-up next conference.”
Coca-Cola lost to wildcard survivor Rain or Shine in the previous Philippine Cup, and is hoping for redemption in the next conference.
Penny, who played for Red Bull in 2006, averaged 26.1 points and 12.7 rebounds for Coca-Cola in 11 games played last Fiesta Conference.
The Sta. Lucia Realtors, meanwhile, are currently in negotiation table to bring back 6-foot-6 scoring demon Anthony Johnson, according to head coach Boyet Fernandez.
On the other hand, semifinalist San Miguel Beer tapped last year’s best import Gabe Freeman, while Rain or Shine will settle anew for burly import Jai Lewis.
