Filipinos lured to Texas for Pacquiao fight

Top Rank Promotions big boss Bob Arum said he is delighted that the Manny Pacquiao vs Joshua Clottey fight will be held in one of the most magnificent stadiums, the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Pacquiao will defend his World Boxing Organization (welterweight) title against Clottey on March 13.

Arum added that the Dallas Cowboys Stadium will host future fights that Pacquiao may have in the future.

Las Vegas boxing aficionados, meantime, have been encouraged to travel to Texas to watch the fight live.

To curb the costs, promotional packages will be made available for Las Vegas residents such as airfare discounts and hotel specials. The packages were offered and designed by Cowboys Stadium owner Jerry Jones.

Jones told Arum that he wants to attract Filipinos from all over the world. Ticket prices range from $50 to $100 as they want more Filipinos to show up in support for “the People’s Champ,” as per Arum.

The Top Rank head honcho also noted that instead of the 45,000-seating capacity, they extended the stadium to accommodate up to 50,000 to 65,000 people.

Texas residents former United States President George W. Bush and his wife Laura admitted that they are huge Manny Pacquiao fans.

Pacquiao, meantime, is scheduled to do a concert after the fight in a special Texas stadium where 5,000 people can be in attendance.

He was supposed to fight undefeated Floyd Mayweather, Jr. at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on the same day. Their fight was called off due to their disagreement on the drug testing procedure.

Mayweather, for his part, is set to fight on March 13 in Las Vegas. His opponent is still unknown.
