Timothy Bradley hands Lamont Peterson defeat
At Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, California, WBO junior welterweight Timothy Bradley (25-0-1, 11KOs) won a very impressive twelve round decision over previously undefeated Lamont Peterson (27-1, 13KOs). The scores were 118-110, 119-108 and 120-107.
After a very close boixng match for the first two minutes, a huge right hand from Bradley in round one would stun Peterson. Bradley tried to follow-up and Peterson held on. In the second round, Bradley would once again stun Peterson in two different exchanges with that monster right hand bomb. Bradley worked over Peterson until the bell sounded. Bradley came out jabbing in the third round.
During an inside exchange, a combination of bodyshots and a right hand sent Peterson down to both knees. Peterson shook it off and started an inside war of bodyshots with Bradley. A left hand by Bradley would not stop Peterson's charge, who started coming on strong at the end of the third with a variety of punches to the head and body.
Bradley came out in the fourth with a heavy four punch combo. Peterson went back inside and they started trading some heavy shots on the inside. Bradley seemed a bit winded as Peterson continued to come on. At the end Bradley got off with a big combo. The fight was very close with both guys trading good shots to the head and body at close range. Peterson landed a very hard right near the end but Bradley took the shot and kept coming. Peterson came out with the jab in the sixth. Bradley started unloading when Peterson missed with a wild shot. They traded lefthooks and then Bradley landed another good right hand off a combination. Peterson's left eye sustained a cut that began to bleed.
They were trading big body shots at the start of the seventh. Bradley kept his distance and was landing some very hard combos to the head and body. Peterson slowed down in the round. Bradley with a combo to the body. Peterson was chasing but being picked off with rights and lefts. In the eight, Bradley continued to move away and pick off an incoming Peterson. Bradley landed a big three punch combo as Peterson came in and it shook him up. They were trading shots at the end with Bradley getting the better of him. The pace slowed down a little in the ninth, but Bradley managed to use movement and combinations to outhustle Peterson in spots.
Bradley with some very hard body shots in the first minute of the tenth. Bradley was really working Peterson over in the round, landing combinations every time Peterson walked in. Peterson kept coming but Bradley was catching him as he walked in. They traded some big punches to the body to close it out. Bradley still working well on the move in the eleventh. Peterson started countering well and drawing Bradley into a fire fight. Bradley got off with a four punch combo. Peterson started targeting the body with quick combinations.
The twelfth round had Peterson going for broke and Bradley making sure that he was able to hold on for the win. Both guys were throwing some wild punches during exchanges. They were trading heavy punches for the entire final thirty seconds. Peterson was stunned in the final few seconds with the entire crowd standing up to cheer.
