San Miguel battles Rain or Shine

San Miguel Beer battles Rain or Shine this Friday with the Beermen out to boost their bid for one of two outright semis berths in the KFC-PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

With the classification round nearing its end, SMB coach Siot Tanquingcen said they need to win three of their remaining five games to gain a playoff for the second outright semis berths.

But if they hurdle four of their last four games, including their 7:30 p.m. encounter with the Elasto Painters, the Beermen will be assured of an automatic semis berth.

“Every game is important. Every game we have to come out and compete,” said Tanquingcen.

The Beermen are currently at second place with a 10 -3 record, just one and a half game behind league-leader Alaska (11-1), and two games ahead of defending champion Talk ’N Text, Purefoods, and Ginebra all with 8-5 cards.

Clashing in the first game at 5 p.m. are Barako Bull and Burger King, two teams in danger of being eliminated early.

The Whoppers are occupying the seventh spot followed by the Painters (3-9), Energy Boosters (2-10) and Coca-Cola (2-11).

Games Wednesday (Araneta Coliseum)
5:00 p.m. — Barako Bull vs Burger King
7:30 p.m. — Rain or Shine vs San Miguel
