Coach Louie Alas wants as much aggressiveness on the offensive end as his men bring to the table in defense when the Philippine Patriots aim for a sweep of Indonesia Satria Muda BritAma in the Asean Basketball League Saturday.
A third straight victory by the streaking Patriots over Satria Muda BritAma will strengthen their hold of the top spot in the inaugural six-nation club tournament.
Game time is 4 p.m. at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan.
“Defensively, we’re doing great the past five games,” said Alas. “We’ve held our opponents to less than 70 points, but we’ve been passive with our offensive execution.”
The Patriots improved their record to a league-best 6-1, including a five-game winning roll, following a 77-61 ripping of the Thailand Tigers last Tuesday.
“We’re expecting a close game this time,” said Alas of their third meeting with the Indonesians under the tournament’s three-round elimination format.
The Patriots posted a 74-56 homecourt win on Nov. 21 over Satria Muda BritAma, which played minus 6-foot-9 American import Nakiea Miller.
“They’re playing complete this time,” said Alas. “I watched their last game and Miller was very impressive.”
Satria Muda BritAma is also reinforced by former PBA guard Rensy Bajar.
The Patriots pulled off a 76-69 triumph against Satria Muda BritAma during the league opener in Jakarta last Oct. 10 behind the late game heroics of veteran guards Froilan Baguion and Warren YbaƱez.
Alas expects another dominating performance from his 6-10 American import Jason Dixon, who scored 19 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks against the Tigers four days ago.
