Purefoods' Yap is week's best
No, it’s not hard court star James Yap. Another Yap made waves for the Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants last week, making him the Accel-KFC Player of the Week for the period of November 30 to December 6.
Roger Yap powered the Giants with 21 points in their 89-81 win over Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings on Sunday. Yap also made 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot in the game against the Gin Kings.
Yap said in a PBA.ph article, “Defense is the only way we’ll be able to beat Barangay Ginebra. We all know that we have to limit their scoring so as not to let the crowd get in the game.”
“Mahirap kapag nagsisigaw na ang mga fans ng Ginebra. That’s why I told my teammates na kailangang pagtiyagaan namin ang depensa. Nagbunga naman ng maganda,” continued the cager from University of San Jose Recoletos in Cebu, who was called the “Samboy Lim of Visayas” as an amateur.
The Giants, who are tied with the Gin Kings and defending champion Talk ‘N Text in third place at 7-4, also scored an 88-79 win over the Coca-Cola Tigers on Wednesday.
Yap averaged 16 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 0.5 blocked shot and 3.5 errors in 23.5 minutes in the games against Ginebra and Coca-Cola.
The 32-year-old player averaged 9.91 points, 4.27 rebounds, 3.73 assists, 0.18 steal, 0.64 blocked shot and 2.45 errors in 23.64 minutes in the 11 games he played in the ongoing KFC-PBA Philippine Cup. – With a report from PBA.ph
