Pacquiao holds family reunion in GenSan

GENERAL SANTOS CITY – The Christmas season is time for family reunions. Even “People’s Champ” Manny Pacquiao did not let this pass when he gathered all his relatives on Saturday.

More than 1,000 Pacquiaos from Cebu, Leyte, Zamboanga del Sur and other parts of the country trooped to the Tropicana Beach Resort in General Santos City, all expenses paid by “the Pacman.”

“Siya nagsagot pamasahe namin,” Manny’s uncle, Rolando Pacquiao, said.

Novelty singer-songwriter Lito Camo and his band performed for Pacquiao’s relatives. There was also fire dancing. Home appliances, meantime, were raffled off to Pacquiao’s relatives.

“Organize ko itong reunion para magkita-kita tayo. Next year, sa Iligan naman tayo,” the pound-for-pound king told his relatives.

The Pacquiaos trace their roots in Bukidnon. They then transferred to General Santos City.

His father, Rosalio, worked as a fisherman while his mother, Dionisia, did all sorts of jobs to make ends meet. But that is all behind now because of Manny’s successful boxing career.

The pound-for-pound king is set to start training for his much-anticipated fight with the undefeated Floyd Mayweather, Jr. next year.

But for now, family comes first for the seven-division champion as he enjoys the holiday season with his loved ones.
