Intal, Tubid team up to lift Kings past Tigers

JC Intal and Ronald Tubid anchored Barangay Ginebra’s run-and-gun game, carrying the Kings past the Coca-Cola Tigers, 106-97, and snapped their two-game losing skid in the KFC-PBA Philippine Cup on Christmas Day at the Astrodome.

Intal scored a career-high 20 points while Tubid added 18 as they teamed up in finally tearing apart a close contest and prevent any hopes of a Coca-Cola endgame comeback.

Protecting a seven-point edge, Intal and Tubid went to work and sparked a big fourth quarter Ginebra run when the Kings outscored the Tigers, 18-12, to take a 97-84 lead.

Intal, the high-flying guard out of Ateneo de Manila, punctuated the scoring binge with two explosive dunks, including one where he faked off Coca-Cola big man Dennis Espino, before sliding inside for a thunderous one-handed slam that brought the pro-Ginebra crowd in frenzy.

"JC Intal has the potential based on his skill," said Ginebra coach Jong Uichico in praising the soft-spoken guard. "Kulang lang talaga `yung knowledge and understanding niya of the game thru experience."

Their losing woes over, the Kings climb to 9-6 overall in a tie with Purefoods for fourth to fifth place.

“It’s good we’ll have a very good Christmas," Uichico said of the win.

Willie Wilson added 16, Cyrus Baguio 14, Celino Cruz and Enrico Villanueva scored 11 each, while Billy Mamaril added 10 in a balance scoring for the Kings.

A three-pointer by Cruz with 2:08 to play sealed the win for Ginebra, 106-91.

The Tigers fell to 3-12 despite a 21-point, seven-rebound output from Espino.
