7-division champ Pacquiao turns 31
Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao is at the top of his game at age 31, achieving a milestone that no other boxer has done: winning 7 world championships in 7 different weight divisions.
The pound-for-pound king, who turned 31 on Thursday (December 17), is capping off his landmark year with a grand birthday bash at the KCC Convention Center in General Santos City.
An estimated 2,000 people are expected to attend Pacquiao’s birthday celebration, including former boxer and comedian Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco, Jr., and actors Philip Salvador and Joko Diaz. Velasco, Salvador and Diaz already arrived in General Santos City.
Pacquiao’s mother, Mommy Dionisia, said she is excited about her son’s party.
The ballroom dancing aficionado revealed that she has a special number in store for her son and his well-wishers.
“‘Di na ako nag-practice, kasi pareho man yung partner ko,” Dionisia told ABS-CBN News.
While Mommy Dionisia does not see the need to practice for her “special number,” the band Centerpoint is busy preparing for their front act performance in Pacquiao’s mini-concert party.
“The Pacman” is also set to hit the stage on his 31st birthday shindig.
According to organizers, the celebration will emphasize on other facets of the boxer’s life such as his roles as a son, husband and father.
Pacquiao won his two fights this year by demolishing Briton Ricky Hatton by a 2nd round knockout on May 2 and overcoming Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto via a 12th round technical knockout victory on November 14.
He is set to clash with No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter Floyd Mayweather, Jr. on March 13. – With a report from Chat Ansagay, ABS-CBN News General Santos City
