Mosley stops chasing Pacquiao

After several attempts, World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight super champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley has given up on setting a clash with pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao. “Shane's legacy is intact, and it's not dependent on a Pacquiao yes or no,” said Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer as quoted by a Los Angeles Times sports blog. The LA Times article by Lance Pugmire noted that Schaefer revealed this latest development to The Times. Mosley, who even offered a 40-60 split to face Pacquiao, reportedly told Schaefer to stop negotiating for such bout. “Shane says he'll be the last man standing, anyway,” related Schaefer. Pacquiao’s next fight, tentatively set on Nov. 14, could be against World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico. Negotiations for the Pacquiao-Cotto match are ongoing. As for Mosley, he already gave “marching orders” for Schaefer to arrange a fight this year against Paul Williams, Joshua Clottey, Kermit Cintron, or Andre Berto, the World Boxing Council welterweight champion. Schaefer disclosed that Mosley is confident he can win his next fight and would be primed to face Pacquiao of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. thereafter.
